PN – On December 19, the Central Interdisciplinary Steering Committee on Food Safety announced that the “Food Safety Assurance Plan for the 2014 Lunar New Year” will be implemented nationwide from December 25, 2013, to February 25, 2014.

Accordingly, the central government will establish nine interdisciplinary inspection teams to conduct food safety inspections in 24 key provinces and cities, especially in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and provinces with border gates. Localities will form their own interdisciplinary food safety inspection teams based on actual conditions and in accordance with central guidelines, implementing inspections from provincial down to commune levels.

The inspection content will focus not only on food production and trading but also on the smuggling of food. The Steering Committee requested targeted inspections, focusing on production and business establishments dealing with high-demand Tet products such as alcohol, beer, confectionery, livestock and poultry meat products, and jams (especially those produced by traditional handmade facilities).
